History

Robert Teiko Aryee established Ebenezer Senior High School (then known as Ebenezer Secondary School) on April 22, 1941, in the Gold Coast, Ghana, as a private school. Prior to that date, the school was known as Ebenezer Secondary School. In the beginning, there were only six kids attending the school, which was located in Ayalolo, Accra, and was also his home. After that, the school was moved to Korle Gono, and then in 1952, it was moved again to Mamprobi. Until the government took over the school in 1956 and appointed C.E.A. Martinson as headmaster, R.T. Aryee and his nephew E.K.A. Otoo (father of Ayikoi Otoo) administered the school as headmaster and assistant headmaster respectively at the time. R.T. Aryee was the headmaster.

The name “Ebenezer” originates from the Hebrew word “Eben-Ezer,” which can be translated as “stone of help.”

A modification to the policy of the Ghana Education Service led to the transformation of the institution into a senior secondary school in the year 1981. The school is a secondary educational institution that works primarily with the assistance of a school Board of Governors (BOG), a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), and an Old Students’ Association (OSA). The school is semi-autonomous in its educational operations.

The institution competed in the competition for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Projects that was held in Accra, Ghana at the 5th Ghana Renewable Energy Fair & National Energy Symposium. They came out on top of the competition and were awarded the first prize. The Energy Ministry, along with the Petroleum and Energy Commission, were the ones responsible for organizing the event.
