HISTORY

On August 17, 1923, the late Reverend James Thomas Roberts laid the groundwork for what would become Accra High School. The institution in question might be found on beach avenue in Aayalolo, which is a neighbourhood in Accra, Ghana. In August of 1924, the school commemorated its one anniversary by holding a church ceremony in the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Accra. The late Dr. John Aglionby, who had served as the Anglican Bishop of Accra, was the one who delivered the sermon at the occasion. As a result, there was some sort of connection between the institution and the Church of England. 1924 was the year when the school submitted its first candidates for several examinations in the United Kingdom, including those administered by Cambridge University, the Royal Society of Arts, and Pitman’s Shorthand. These examinations were all held at Cambridge. The majority of the students took the junior Cambridge Examination in 1926 and were successful in passing it. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from the United Kingdom in that year, Mr. Frank Roberts, the eldest son of Reverend Roberts, began working for the organisation. He exerted a lot of effort in order to raise the academic and disciplinary standards of the school that was located in Accra. The late J.O. Ansah Johnson achieved the distinction of being the first student to successfully complete the Cambridge School Certificate Examination in 1927.
